Have you ever seen Boondocks?
The BET show and before that it was a comic strip. I've followed the series for some time. The Boondocks series satirizes African American culture and American politics as seen through the eyes of a revolutionary 10-year-old black radical ,Huey Freeman. The show depicts Huey Freeman and his younger brother Riley, two young children who are moved out of the South Side of Chicago by their grandfather to live with him in the predominantly white fictional suburb of Woodcrest. I enjoyed the show because of the knowledge it indirectly gave off. There is always more going on than some eyes can see and I admire the people that aren't afraid to point it out. Take 20 minutes to get familiar with the show.
I loved Boondocks for it's message, the same way I love InD brands for their's. Soapbox Tee's reminds me of Huey from the Boondocks. Creativity on a conscious level, all merchandise bearing this label are a extension of the founder Stacey "Sun" Smith's vision to create clothing that represents a variety of influences. Her passion filled work as an activist, writer and devout volunteer serve as the motivation for her to keep pushing further ahead. Her work is admirable and her tee's are fire, I'm waiting on my first order as we speak.
Just as an FYI here's a little breakdown on the meanings of a few of the Tee's:
"Higher Learning"- (red moon)...elevate your consciousness....extend your awareness.
"Protect & Serve"- This design is intended to increase our awareness around the injustices that continue to plague our communities. Stop & Frisk, unjust incarcerations, entrapment, illegal deportations, entrapment...We can either become blind to these injustices, or become involved in radical change with education and exposure to these issues.
"Angela Davis" - Angela Davis what more is there to say? She sacrificed her life for the freedom for all political prisoners aside from herself. When she speaks, she speaks for the people, when she moves, she moves for the people...and when she loves, she loves for the people.
In a society where the world is at our finger tips; be educated, be aware and support those doing things you admire and also appreciate.
