  • It is amazing how well your body will treat you, when you take time to give it a little TLC. Take for example, the detox drink or trying a new experience like yoga. Have you seen your body perhaps responding a little differently to life? I have, and it is encouraging me to pursue other little home remedies or free activities that enlighten and create feelings of peace.

Finding balance between my aggressive entrepreneurial nature and living in the moment are serious focuses for me currently. These weekly exercises allow me to clear my mind and listen to what my inner voice has to say on what I have been doing. I’ve shared in the past my experience with extreme eczema, which sometimes hinders my creative process, so I also use these weekly “ me” sessions to keep control of my hands and stress levels.

Never get so caught up in life, you forget to breathe, and for this week my deep breath was found in soothing teas and foot and hand soaks/scrubs.

    Tea Time

I grew up playing tea time with my mom, and it has never left me. On a daily basis I wake up to ginger and green tea, followed by chamomile in the afternoon. Teas have such awesome effects, so I have expanded the type I drink to include those with herbal effects. If you want to calm down, try a cup of lavender tea, Ashwaganda tea, Chamomile, Valerian Root, Peppermint Tea. My personal suggestion would be to indulge in one of these cups while amongst candles or soothing music. Take the time it takes to drink the tea to be with your thoughts and meditate on peaceful energies.

    Hand and Feet Love

Once you have relaxed your muscles with a stress reducing tea, show those hands and feet some love. After all, they pretty much help you do everything do and take you everywhere. Consider these ideas for at home Spa treatments to exfoliate and soften your phalanges! (Recipes courtesy of The Pedicure Room- )

    Softening Foot Soak
    1/2 cup baking soda
    1/4 cup Epsom salts
2-4 drops lavender oil or scent of choice
In a plastic tub, run hot water to fill. Add soda, salt, oil and mix. Soak feet for 15-20 minutes. While feet are still in the water, use a good quality foot file or pumice stone - massage feet to remove rough skin and calluses. Rinse feet, pat dry, moisturize.

    Lavender Hand and Foot Wash
Use to relieve red and inflamed hands and feet.
    1/2 cup dried lavender flowers
1/2 cup finely chopped fresh sage
    2 cups of water
    8 drops of lavender oil
In a saucepan, combine lavender flowers, sage and water. Simmer, covered, on low heat for 20 minutes. Strain mixture through cheesecloth and let cool. Discard the solids, retain the liquid. Add Lavender Oil, shake to emulsify, and then apply to hands and feet with a soft wash cloth or cotton pads. Repeat as necessary, or desired.

    Sweet Milk Foot Soak
    1/2 cup sugar
    2 tablespoons moisturizing lotion
    2 cups milk
    7 cups water
In a large saucepan, heat the milk and water. When steaming, add sugar and lotion and mix to a slightly soupy consistency. Allow to cool, till the mixture is cool enough for you to place feet in. Pour into a bowl large enough to fit both feet. Soak for 10 minutes. You can either rinse now, or use some extra sugar to scrub your feet. Rinse well then apply moisturizer.

Cocoa Butter Hand and Foot Renewal Cream
    1/2 cup almonds
1/2 cup dry oatmeal (not quick-cook or flavored)
    4 tablespoons cocoa butter
    3 tablespoons honey
Process the almonds in a blender or coffee grinder until coarsely ground. In a bowl, combine oatmeal, cocoa butter, honey and ground nuts. Rub into your hands and feet, cover with cotton gloves and socks, leave on overnight. The next morning, remove gloves and socks and rinse.

    Cuticle Cream
1 tablespoon Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
    1 teaspoon olive oil
    3 drops lavender essential oil
Mix into a paste and place into a sterile ointment jar or small pot. Massage into nails and cuticles.

Enjoy indulging in yourself. Remember ladies, we are Queens. Despite saving the world everyday, we must take time to love ourseleves. It is key to taking care of the rest of the world.
