  • Mondays' are my money days. I make a budget for the week, update my expense trackers for the blog and budding jewelry business, and set aside any extra for my moving fund. I like starting the week knowing where my finances stand. January has taught me the value of making a budget. It is a wonderful tool to help you keep track of bills, payments, and savings. It doesn't have to be complex. The more aware I am of my finances the less I have the urge to spend. Physically seeing my money accumulate in an account labeled with my dream is liberating and keeps me focused.

Your budget needs will vary based on your financial obligations and the number of dreams you need to finance. I currently have one for my blog/freelance clients, one for moving, and one for two major goals for 2014: launching my accessories line, and returning to school to obtain a certificate in Interior Decorating.

I have divided my dreams into four separate accounts. Due to my need for organization, I needed to create a budget for each. I made an Excel book for each. It took about 30 minutes to create all four.

Every Monday I review my bills for the week, and any incoming payments I may be receiving. Thanks to my handy budget, I am able to see where I can add more to my savings, or pay more on a bill to get it off of my payment schedule faster. The almighty expense tracker has me feeling like a boss when it comes to my finances. Check out this and this one I found on Google to get your wheels turning. If you're not into the do it yourself method, sites such as Mint.com or Freshbooks.com offer great budgeting services to help you keep track and save more.

It takes money to make money. Account for every penny so you can get to launching your legacy!
