True life confession, I love to grind.
I love building a vision into a reality, as it involves so many parts of your personality to come to the surface. Constantly surprising yourself with your unknown abilities, due to lack of resources is very empowering. I love the act of creating, taking an idea, and making it an action. I've been dreaming of my own business since middle school and everyday I wake up, I make it a point, to take at least three steps in the direction of success. Some days that means soaping others, that means updating the blog, while sometimes it may mean networking for the blog and business.
The grind, can get lonely. Late nights, missed calls, and never ending thoughts can get to be a little isolating at times, which is why I took a break from the grunt work of starting a business to relish in the stories of other creativeprenuers that have had these very same days, years ago. A fellow creative I admire is Meca McKinney. She has a unique approach to design as well as business and has done it again, Her sweet little e -book, for those living the round the clock creative life, has been released -Lifestyles of the Authentic and Creative Hustle Guide. This book is a great pick me up, a collection of interviews with various creatives Meca has met along her journey as a designer. Page after page, the book kept a smile on my face. The first interview, The Blackwoods of frocksandflats.com was my favorite. The creative couple worked with awesome aura's such as Rakia Reynolds, owner of Skai Media (one of my many sheros and a dream job/company for a girl such as myself). The updates they made to her wardrobe and office space where phenomenal! After each interview I could feel myself getting more excited for my own future and the endless possibilities I will be presented with. It was also pretty sweet to see local creatives included in her round up like Zivile Art from Philadelphia - such a small world!
A grinder like me loves seeing others with the same ambition. It's encouraging to know, when you have passion and purpose burning inside you, others can relate. Click here to order a copy of Meca's book or here to check out her amazing handmade creations. Support indie creatives, and get your copy today. This book is the perfect thing to read before you put in a day on your dream. This book serves as proof; Good Things Come To Those Who Hustle.
