What takes a dream from a vision to a reality?
Support. There is always strength in numbers - especially when it comes to business. We talk about dreaming, building, and brands that have come to fruition via someone's late night sketches and science experiments, but we haven't ever really touched on the importance of support. I am an avid supporter of the Indie fashion and natural beauty community. When I do shop, I spend my money on brands I believe in, be it because of their back story or social responsibility practices. I adore visionaries, and am always super excited to share new ones with you. This brings me to today's Indie's Spotlight - who needs our support. I promise it is worth every penny. Inspired by patients seen with Pterygium during a medical trip to Haiti - free spirited doctor Sagar Patel - vowed to create a pair of sunglasses that shields the eye from harmful UV sunlight exposure--something the Haitian farmers are continuously bombarded with. Alas, Pterys was conceived.
Think high quality eye wear, I'm talking bamboo, rosewood, and zebra-wood frames. Designed with sensitive eyes in mind, Pterys offers high quality wooden sunglasses that help prevent a common eye condition known as pterygium, It is a condition common to third-world countries. A percentage of sales are used to support The Hope Alliance, a global organization committed to preventing Pterygium and other UV-related eye conditions through educational programs and sunglasses donations. I was able to test out a pair of my own out and am obsessed - such an earthy luxe that flows seamlessly with my Bohemian style. I'm not sure about you, but those after work drives into the sunset always leave sharp sun rays in my eyes, a forgotten feeling thanks to my Pterys! My favorite part - they look just as fly on me as on my King, and can be rocked with a plethora of styles.
Within 24 hours of launching their campaign on Indiegogo - they have exceed their goal already by 13%, Yesss! Yet another example of what it looks like to prosper in purpose! Founded on philanthropy by two doctors and a business guy, Pterys's aim to provide resources for those with the Pterygium eye condition and stylish shade for those without. I've never seen support look so effortless.
