There are so many different perspectives to life and fashion. Your experiences and personality shape your style. So where do the chicks who aren't afraid to stand out and make statements shop? At Lipstick Guerillas of course! I chatted with the CEO/head designer Jazmin Walker, and was so enthralled by her swag, passion, and confidence. She launched Lipstick Guerillas in collaboration with Nameus, a fly male urban brand in Charlotte, NC about a month ago and is working on plans for future projects as we speak. This edgy queen, has her style as well as others down to a science and has styled for DC and NYFW shows. Super stylish and interesting, take a second to get to know Ms. Walker and the Lipstick Guerillas. Better yet, just join the group and cop you some tees.
Lipstick Guerillas came about from people complimenting Jazmin's style and her styling career. "I've always known how to sew, I taught myself when I was younger. Styling had me networking with alot of people, so I decided to just do it." In 2011 she started out with handmade tops and turbans. On the side she would do customized orders such as dresses and skirts. Nameus was interested in a collaboration and Lipstick Guerillas tees were bred. Lipstick Guerillas is everyday wear, but not for the everyday girl. The current collection uses political statements from categories like religion, sex, drugs, and violence; the things people don't like to talk about but that are still relevant. Jazmin is a queen of pushing boundaries and being heard. She will be adding snapbacks and totes to the collection in the near future. The ideal client for this brand would be a "chick with balls". Love it!
Her brand is super dope, and so is her style. My favorite part is that she claims she has no "set style". Instead, it's what she wakes up and feels like wearing. She is very versatile when it comes to dress and is heavily influenced by her attitude that day. Jazmin has edgy in her DNA, but doesn't always dress that way. She has vintage printed across her too and likes trips to vintage stores for hidden treasures. Her style perspective has such a range of inspiration; including B&W films and anything from the 1950's,60's or 90's.
She's a trendsetter and avid style watcher, as she studies fashion shows. My respect for her peaks with the following statement, "You can't be taught passion." Her flame is bright. She never attended a fashion school, she didn't need to she taught herself all she knows and made the connections she needed to make. Definition of a Queen right there, her determination is making her dreams reality season after season.
So now we are all digging her right! She's the super cool girl everyone would have wanted to be friends with in H.S. Her aura screams passion, and thats something I understand and fully respect. Lipstick Guerillas is just the beginning. Expect to see her face popping up more and more.
