My sophomore year of college, as a fashion merchandising student, I had to take a course on the psychology of dress. That was probably my favorite class that semester. I loved learning about why people shopped, purchased, and dressed as they did. Style is not a perfect science but it is one that speaks volumes about an individual.
A lot of people don't appreciate spending a few extra dollars and minutes on your appearance. Remember, you only get one first impression with anyone; your future spouse, boss, business partner, or client. You should always take a few extra minutes to incorporate elements into your look that make you feel comfortable, as well as confident.
For those of you interested in a more specific explanation of the importance of styling, meet Dex Robinson of Four Seasons Style Management. This uplifting young man is the Projective & Creative resource of the company and helps produce looks for clients seeking to set up there personal wardrobes. I was able to snag a few moments of his time and learn a little about his thoughts on styling and how he became a part of the Four Seasons Style Management team.
HH: What are your personal aspirations when it comes to the fashion industry?
DR: One of my personal aspirations is to change the way people outside of the fashion industry view menswear. A lot of times I feel as guys we dress how society thinks we should, never pushing the envelope before it's time; always waiting for the next celebrity to bring things to forefront. I feel as though style is an expression of self and it really has no rules.
HH: Why is image consulting necessary?
DR: Image consulting is necessary because it helps people project the perfect image to create an effective first impression, which will ultimately help a client achieve success in their personal, professional, and social life.
HH: How does your team come up with the visions to capture the clients' brands and personal image?
DR: A person's image is a combination of several factors. We specifically tailor our visions for each client. We generally look at their existing wardrobe, the subject as a whole, and figure out ways to incorporate new things to create winning looks.
HH: When did you realize you wanted to be involved with 4 Seasons Style Management?
DR: When I reconnected with owners Lisa Smith-Craig & Cappie Pondexter who are two of the wisest people I know. I saw how invested she was in her company and I knew that only greatness could come from being able to be a part of it.
HH: What is your favorite part of being a Projective & Creative?
DR: My favorite part is being able to learn and be involved in different aspects of a business. Not just being able to be great at one thing but having the ability to excel in several different capacities in the industry; to hopefully become an asset to anyone!
HH: Is there any advice you wished you received when starting your career in fashion?
DR: To always remember the journey is the reward! Sometimes just setting the goal and working toward it is the accomplishment, even if you miss the actual goal you set. It can be tough breaking into such an over-saturated industry but just staying focused and determined will go a long way!
