  • Remember paper dolls? The simplest form of fashion styling circa the late 80's early 90's? I was hooked on them when I was younger. Little Taila would sit for hours and make outfits out of the paper tops, bottoms, and dresses. This pastime fueled my lifelong fascination of  fashion illustration.

I've always admired how artists bring life to a blank canvas. Markers, pencils, and talented hands birth new designs into the world of fashion everyday. Today's artisan is Savia Payne, her sketches are vivid, fun, and high fashion. Take a gander below, what do you think? Need a sketch or service? Hit her up. Also show her boutique some love and check it out.
HH: What initially intrigued you about fashion? How did you begin illustrating?
    SP:
I've always  loved to create outfits and design because I loved Art. Honestly,That’s so Raven, really opened my eyes to fashion design as a career option. It pretty much put a label on what I was already doing.

I began by  posting some work I had done online. I got a great response and it encouraged me to keep going as I was improving.

HH. What tools do you use to create? Do you have any rituals when sketching/painting?
    SP:
I use art pencils, markers, and color pencils. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I have a certain set up before I start to get the perfect feng shui lol.

HH: Describe your creation process. Any favorite mediums to work with?
    SP:
Typically I think of an outfit before I draw  or I’m inspired by something. I just take it from there while blasting my favorite music at the moment .

My favorite mediums right now are my precision 01/03 point pens,my white chalk pencils and my HB pencils. I can never go wrong with them!

HH: Do you offer freelance services? If so what kind do you provide?
SP:Yes I do! I create logos for businesses/flyers/ cards, I make illustrations for designers, as well as personal illustrations for people that would like themselves drawn, in a “fashionable or glam" style.

HH: How long have you been illustrating? What kind of maturity have you seen in your portfolio? What does your work say about you?
    SP:
I started in 10’ when I was in the 10th grade in high school. I wasn’t very good at all (not saying that I can’t improve now) so I stopped. I was the president of the art club so I have always been drawing. I recently started back 3 months ago.

I’ve seen myself progress through the various styles and techniques I’ve used to design the characters. From shading, to facial structures, and body shape, I  just try stuff until I find things that work or look best to me.

I would hope my work gives the impression that fashion is all about having fun and dressing/loving your shape. You can be glamorous and sexy no matter what size you are!

HH: Where can readers follow your work or reach out for services?
SP:They can follow me on Twitter (@onlyonesavia) and instagram (@hautviva). For my services they can reach me by email ( savia235@gmail.com)
HH: Anything else you would like to share ?
    SP:
Sure, I also have a Vintage Boutique, The Unorthodox Box. (www.theunorthodoxbox.bigcartel.com) The Unorthodox Box is a vintage store meant for beings that strive to be themselves. It’s meant for people that are original, and could take a $20 item and make it look like a million dollars! Individuals that look at items with an artist eye and see the potential in any piece! Check it out! I would also like to thank you so much for the opportunity and consideration!
