  • Last night I ran into an old friend. Her name is poetry, see we met at a young age, introduced by my mom and her love of Maya Angelou's phenomenal woman. The rhythm of the words and the meaning behind them combined flowed like music. I was hooked, and had to take in more. The different poetic persepectives spoke to me; Nikki Giovanni intrigued me and Langston Hughes inspired me. The art of poetry and spoken word taught me I find peace in powerful words. Def Poetry Jam in high-school was my every Sunday night. I live for the emotion emitted through words. Individuals with the gift of spoken word have always been admired and appreciated in my life.

The universe must have sensed my  disconnect from my friend and realigned us tonight through Verses and Flow on onetv.  Similar to my old favorite Def Poetry Jam, only starring new poetic gems. The talent on the show, is phenomenal. It is amazing the impact one can have through words, don't believe me, listen to one of the artist below. Be aware, their words will provoke emotion in your being. Be a witness to  the beauty of words.  I watched the two episodes that came on last night twice, to fully indulge in the words and point of view of each poet. My people are so talented and inquisitive, it makes me smile. Here's a few clips, I wanna pass the energy on to you. Let me know your thoughts or any spoken word artist you really enjoy.

Now that me and my old friend are reacquainted, I'm never losing touch again.
