  • They say if you look back at the things you did as a child, you will ultimately find your purpose as an adult.

When I was a wee one, my parents gifted me a cash register one Christmas, not just any register but one with a vault and a fake conveyor belt like in the grocery store. You couldn't tell me anything. I always wanted to play store. If I didn't have any takers, I would recruit my baby dolls and get to work. The funny thing about when I would play store was I would also search for clothes to scan and bag up for my customers. Thanks mom and dad for noticing my future at an early age. Mom said she could see me being a buyer.

From the play cash register to keyboards hooked up to imaginary monitors, I was always fascinated with the retail industry. Years after I was given the best gift ever, I started working at Marshall's - my first opportunity to use a real register and even better, to work in a sea of clothing and accessories. That was when the wheels got to turning about owning my own store one day. A vision that has yet to go away.

The urge was dulled after seven years in different retail environments but has returned stronger than ever since I have been immersed in self improvement and future planning. With 25 knocking on my door next Friday, I am assessing where I am, where I want to be, and how I will get there. Twenty five is the year.

Why have I always wanted my own store? Simply to stock it with my products and the beautiful work of other InD Nation members. In my future, I see traveling around the world to meet new faces with enthralling tales of their passion and exclusive merchandise crafted from their visions. If I was able to attend half of the international fashion weeks I follow, I would be the happiest woman on earth. The act of buying merchandise I find inspiring and authentic to display in my own boutique for InD nation lovers is what gets me out of bed every morning.

After meditating to mother universe and expressing to God my intentions and dreams, events have been occurring to really motivate my executing the dream that started with that Playskool cash register. David Secul left me a pleasant email yesterday sharing this awesome IPhone/IPad app he has created for buyers and boutique owners. (like I am soon to be ? ) The iMerchandise App simplifies the wholesale clothing buying process for retailers. To date there is nothing on the market like it and it is FREE.

The app eliminates written orders and replaces all the paperwork process. The Imerchandise app brings sanity to buying trips and take out extra work. Simply snap a picture and you are able to create a "fashion story" and organize merchandise by categories. Manage multiple brands and categories by using iMerchandise to properly pair and create outfits before the garments are even on hangers. This app also allows the user to combine fashion week photos and line sheets from multiple showrooms and turn them all into polished looks. The perfect buyer's buddy, store right by your side on your IPhone or IPad. Beat doing all that paperwork amongst the rush.
For my buyers and boutique owners looking for ways to simply your workload, as I always am, this app is for you. My wish for the new year includes finding an assistant buyer's position or the opportunity to launch my own. Either way IMecrchandise will be a part of my life, and probably yours once you check out the site. Try it out, give me your feedback.

InD Nation is all about encouraging those with the same aspirations. There are enough pieces of success-pie in this world for us all to get one. IMerchandise is onto something new and something necessary in an age when fashion is part textile part technology. Stay up to date, download this awesome app here.
