Soooo I have a new favorite female singer.
It's kind of refreshing as I feel like today a lot of music is really just noise. Maybe I'm turning into my parents more and more by the moment, but I find it hard to relate to some of the love songs and female depictions spoken of in main stream music today. Maybe it's because I consider myself a queen and not a "bad bitch", but that discussion is for another day.
Then I found Fatai, a sultry soultress with powerful vocals. My king came across her work, knowing I would love her and within 5 minutes, of seeing her outfit and hearing her first high note. I was hooked, so much so, I wanted to share some of her work with you all. She is a peaceful spirit with beautiful vocals, and we should all love her :D!
I believe at this point in my life, I'm at a cross with music, I'm looking for passion and meaning - for me that would be circa the 90's legends, Nas, Lauren Hill, Hov, Erykah Badu, The Roots and so many more. I grew up right outside the soulful city of Philadelphia where neo-soul and Jazz were mainstream genres. I'm tired of unmotivated and ignorant music blasted across every major airway. The worse part, a lot of music is auto-tuned, I'm looking for authentic. You are what you intake into your body; that goes for music, food, skincare products, everything. If you truly believe your thoughts and actions manifest your life - why invite negativity into your temple. I've done it, and I need an audio detox, starting with Fatai and all of her positive energy. Also let me mention, as we all know I am a fashion lover and flower child first. Her style. . is amazing, right up my alley down to the purple hair. I love the eclectic Bohemian essence she has going on. I'm obsessed. To style this little gem and provide her with Taila.Made skincare products would be a dream come true. . or we could just be besties :).
Listen below to a few of her covers, share your thoughts, or other indie singers you are especially fond of at the moment. I need to rebuild my music collection. Starting with Fatai. Enjoy!
