  • Motherland Krooks. What are the first three words that come to mind after reading those two words? For me, Africa, Expedition, and Resilience came to mind after glancing at the brand's website. Oluwaseyi Sowunmi has a different focus as creative director of the line; one where he aims to illustrate and design pieces from international inspiration. His strongest interest at the moment seems to be the culture of Africa. Motherland Krooks is all about growth this year. The aim is to reside on the backs of Kings across the globe .

HH: What does Motherland Krooks mean to you?
    OS:
As the founder and current creative director of Motherland Krooks, the brand means alot to me. It was created to capture and blend the essence of urban/casual wears with cultural influence from Africa and other parts of the world. My agenda is to always illustrate and design from the inspiration of what Africa offers in every aspect of life, from the issues to the history and lifestyle.

HH: Who is your brand geared towards?
    OS:
Motherland Krooks is simply geared towards whoever understands what the brand represents in respect to our style and our agenda as a brand.

HH: Describe your design process for the shirts?
OS:We see the commonality in t-shirt designs and we understand the necessity of a t-shirt in casual brand. In order to design our t-shirt to the expectation of our indented consumers, we put the designs through a process that's more inviting and relatable to our agenda. Through research, we gather information on historical events and issues that relate to Africa. After going through the process of coming up with an illustration that captures our findings, we finalize the best type of printing method that will justify our story. However, most of our t-shirts you see now are design focused on our brand.

HH: What's in the works for Motherland Krooks in 2013?
    OS:
The year 2013 is just another year for growth. We are working hard to expand our brand through improving brand recognition in the States and South Africa. We’re also planning on to work with bloggers and map out an editorial campaign for Motherland Krooks and much more. I think I’ve said too much. Hopefully, these plans are executed with success.

HH: How can we follow you?
OS:I like to say, Motherland Krooks is a BRAND as well as an ISSUE. We need people to support our brand and help raise awareness to the issues we mention.
