  • My name is Taila and I'm a soaper.

It all started with a pound of melt and pour soap base. I wasn't really sure what it was, but I was looking for a cute "from the heart" Christmas gift to give my loved ones' last Christmas along with handmade jewelry. I was feeling creative and had been spending a lot of time on Pinterest, where I came across a little tutorial on soap for gifting. The bars were so cute, and the ingredients didn't seem outrageous. I went and got some base, colors, fragrance, and a mold the next day.

Two cheers for the genius that invented melt and pour. I was hooked. Christmas gifts turned into birthday gifts, and 'just because' gifts. I really enjoyed the act of making the soap. With the academia blood I have running though my veins, I was tempted to learn more so I could do more with the soaps.  I dove into internet articles and books to gain insight into the process and find recipes. When I got bored of tried and true recipes I began making my own based on the information I was learning about herbs, oils,  and butters. The organic bases were becoming my own concoctions and I was obsessed.

I began adding oils, clays, and butters that combat eczema flare ups and damaged skin and haven't looked back since. My hobby  turned full blown passion, and melt and pour  was no longer enough. The next step for me was to dabble with the Cold Process soaping method, where you add lye to oils and fats in order to create your own natural soap. Melt and Pour is fun and has many benefits when combined with certain additives but Cold Process really allows you control over the ingredients. Three batches in and my love for the craft continues intensified.

My goal is to help people looking for one of two things:  1. Relief from eczema or other annoying skin irritations 2. Peace for those looking for a natural skin care regimen that soothes their spirits. I'm looking for soap friends! Those who have their own natural soap or skincare business and have stories to share, raise your hands. As I develop my own line I hope to support other soapers living their dream with soothing skincare products. If you know someone or are a soaper yourself, leave a comment below so we can chat about our journeys. Skin is your biggest organ, it is crucial you take care of it. You only have one body. Dealing with severe hand eczema for the last few years has really opened my eyes to not taking life for granted. The only relief I have received since the emergence of my hand eczema was when I began making my own natural soaps. Now it is time to use what I know to make products to help others with a story similar to mine.

I shared with you my favorite soap brands from the Haddonfield Fine Arts and Crafts Festival a few weekends ago; here is a brand I follow and admire on IG, Corner Stone Soap Co. They always have an amazing presentation, you can see the passion and love put into each creation. When you get a chance check out and support Corner Stone Soap Co. They are pretty awesome.

I love making soap and supporting fellow soap makers. So check out the brand of the day and stay tuned for my soapmaking story as it continues to unfold. For those interested in my soaps, I will be doing smaller custom orders until I launch towards the end of the month. If you would like to purchase, please email me at hautehemisphere@gmail.com and we can chat. This business, is quite a process so bear with me, as I get it up and off the ground. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you all!

    Sincerely. ..
