An Indie Kind of Christmas

Sustainable Statements: MADE Accessories

During my junior year of college, I took a class on sustainability in the fashion industry. One of our assignments for the semester was to read  Where Am I Wearing? In the book, Kelsey Timmerman, describes the connection between impoverished garment workers' standards of living and Americans. The book opened my eyes to the opportunities the fashion industry offers people of the world as far as employment. I deeply support and continue to educate myself on the topic of fair trade in fashion and encourage you to do the same.

Island Inspired : The Spirit Of SoKa

The Caribbean style and culture has always inspired me. The colors, fabric weights, and silhouettes of their garments are beautiful and fun. Women of the islands have this radiant glow of free spirits and bold confidence. So many designers have begun to capture this aesthetic. The execution of this trend and style of dress in general, is captured best by those who have roots in the colorful culture. Born & raised in the West Indies, SoKa is the contrivance of 22-year-old Couturier, Karen De Freitas-Fraser.
