During my junior year of college, I
took a class on sustainability in the fashion industry. One of our assignments
for the semester was to read Where Am I Wearing? In the book, Kelsey Timmerman, describes the connection between impoverished garment workers' standards of living and Americans. The book opened my eyes to the opportunities
the fashion industry offers people of the world as far as employment. I
deeply support and continue to educate myself on the topic of fair trade in fashion and encourage you to do the same.
Last month, I received the awesome
Igonyegonye Necklace, in the cutest Ankara printed bag via my Rocksbox set. I loved the piece so
much I wanted to learn about the brand. My Google search revealed MADE creates beautiful handmade jewelry in there Kenyan
workshop. MADE operates under ethical and fair trade practices as well as
provide employees with new skill training and sustainable opportunities.
Awesome cause for an awesome product! Do you know of any other jewelry brands
abiding by ethical and fair trade practices with fantastic products? Share in
the comments; I'd love to know about them!
